Welcome to Marevilla, your new haven in the heart of Cozumel!
We are thrilled to introduce our newly constructed apartments, providing a perfect blend of modern comfort and tropical tranquility.
We are Liang and Stefan. A married couple, we are natives of the USA and Germany with a so to speak international background and based on the small island of Cozumel in the Caribbean Sea off Mexico.
Marevilla is our very personal project, the idea of which slowly developed over many years during our countless trips and travels. The idea has now evolved into our dream, since we are permanently residing and working in Cozumel. That dream is to rent our own vacation homes to guests here in Cozumel.
The Story Behind Marevilla
From a Dream to Our Little Home in Cozumel
Sometimes a story starts with a simple idea: finding a place that feels like home – and one day being able to share it with others.
After years of searching, we, Liang & Stefan, finally found the place we had been looking for in 2019 – a piece of land right in the heart of San Miguel de Cozumel.
At the end of 2020, our biggest adventure began: building Marevilla.
At the same time, we renovated a small existing house on the property and turned it into our own home. And we still live here today. Being here is important to us. We didn’t want to simply build a vacation rental and manage it from somewhere else. We wanted to live on the property, welcome our guests personally, and be here whenever they need us.
A Lot of Heart, Hard Work & DIY
Building Marevilla was very much a hands-on project for us. We planned and worked on many parts of it ourselves, putting our own ideas into everything from walls and floors to bathrooms and kitchens.
We also wanted to create the kind of place we’ve always appreciated during our own travels: modern comforts, cozy spaces, thoughtful details, and a relaxed atmosphere where you can quickly feel at home.
And Then It Finally Happened…
In January 2024, we reached a very special milestone and welcomed our first guests to one of our two ground-floor studios. The second studio followed shortly after.
Little by little, Marevilla was becoming what we had dreamed it would be: a place where we could welcome people from all over the world and share a little piece of our life in Cozumel.
Then, in February 2026, we reached another big milestone. Our spacious upstairs apartment was finally completed.
With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room, and its own balcony, the apartment offers plenty of room for families, friends, or small groups to relax and enjoy their time on the island.
The New Pool
And then came another very special moment in February 2026: after a lot of planning, hard work, and plenty of hands-on effort, we finally finished our new swimming pool.
Surrounded by our lush tropical garden, the pool has become the heart of Marevilla. For us, it was a huge milestone – and the long-awaited finishing touch to years of building and renovating.
But the pool is more than just a place to cool off. You can swim a few laps, sit back and relax in the water, or simply enjoy the tropical surroundings. Its size and depth also make it a great space for scuba diving exercises and training.
After so many years of building, renovating, planning, and working on all the little details, jumping into our finished pool for the first time was a pretty special moment for us.
Today
Marevilla is much more than just a vacation rental. It’s a project we’ve poured a lot of time, hard work, and personal ideas into – and, most importantly, it’s a place we actually call home.
From the very first day of construction to the completion of the pool, it’s been quite a journey. Today, we’re excited to finally share a little piece of our home and our life in Cozumel with guests from all over the world.
We hope you’ll feel as comfortable here as we do – and that you’ll take a little bit of that special Cozumel and Caribbean feeling home with you.

COZUMEL OCEAN RESEARCH
We are also excited to share that Marevilla is home to the headquarters of COR – Cozumel Ocean Research, a local non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO).
COR’s mission is to protect the environment, preserve and restore ecological balance, and promote awareness and action to help prevent and address pollution of the water, soil, and air on the island and in the surrounding sea.
One of COR’s ongoing areas of research focuses on the local population of spotted eagle rays. COR collaborates on research projects with Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida, helping to learn more about these fascinating animals and their role in Cozumel’s marine ecosystem.
For several years, COR has also been building and expanding its own local database on the spotted eagle ray population around Cozumel. By collecting and documenting observations over time, the organization is working to better understand where these rays are found, how their population changes, and what can be done to help protect them and their habitat.
We are proud to have COR at Marevilla and to support their important work here in Cozumel. Marevilla has been home to COR’s headquarters since December 2022.
